February 1 -- Great Acrobat Tricks
Presented by Mike Burns

You've probably used the Acrobat Reader many times while perusing documentation on the Internet. You may have wondered what the full Acrobat package can do, and how it could be useful to you.

Mike Burns uses Acrobat professionally at work, publishing large proposals and technical documents. The government now requires many proposals be submitted in Acrobat, linked and on a CD ROM. We will look at some production techniques (like replacing a table of contents with a correction without losing links already made).

It used to be a real problem trying to get documents to print correctly at a service bureau (or even on a friend's system) when they were sent as Word, PageMaker, Illustrator, or whatever files. People have learned that converting the document into Acrobat format largely removes the problems of font substitutions, misplaced images, and other problems.

Most Adobe products can save directly to Acrobat "PDF". The full acrobat package allows all programs to save to it (like Microsoft Word and Quark Express), optimized for the screen/Web or high quality offset printing.

Mike will show some Acrobat tips that greatly speed up the process of creating documents, and make them eminently readable and navigatable.

Remember, the meetings are free and open to the public. Please bring a friend.

Please send email to gdtpug@troutcom.com with suggestions for topics you are interested in seeing covered. Or even better, volunteer to give a presentation!

The Goleta DeskTop Publishing Users Group is a SIG (Special Interest Group) of the Santa Barbara PC Users Group. We are not platform specific: some members have PCs, some have Macs, some have both. Linux and other systems are sprinkled in as well for good measure. We focus on the issues of publishing in all forms, be it on paper, web, CD-ROM, or some other medium.
