June 6 -- News for New Authors and Self Publishers
We will have two speakers tonight: Bill Frank from 121-Direct, and Ellen Reid from Smarketing.
Bill Frank will summarize the recently concluded Book Expo of America,
which he found to be one of the most up-beat and positive recent trade
shows. New trends emerged at the show that all writers, publishers and
book sellers should know. Bill will discuss the following topics:
1) The state of the book industry
2) Major publisher news announced at the show
3) Trends in the book buying/book selling industry
4) What topics are hot and what topics are not
5) General impressions of the impacts of 9/11 on the industry
6) What authors/publishers should do to capitalize on the trends
Our second speaker will be Ellen Reid, a Book Shepherd. She guides writers and publishers through the myriad of issues surrounding launching a book. Ellen will be talking about how to launch a book, what her role is as a Book Shepherd and why now is the best time to publish a book (either traditional publishing or self-publishing). More information about her background and capabilities can be found in her press release at http://www.troutcom.com/gdtpug/ereidpr.html
Please send email to gdtpug@troutcom.com with suggestions for topics you are interested in seeing covered. Or even better, volunteer to give a presentation!
The Goleta DeskTop Publishing Users Group is a SIG (Special Interest Group) of the Santa Barbara PC Users Group. We are not platform specific: some members have PCs, some have Macs, some have both. Linux and other systems are sprinkled in as well for good measure. We focus on the issues of publishing in all forms, be it on paper, web, CD-ROM, or some other medium.
