September 5 -- Introduction to Acrobat 5
presented by Mike Burns
PDF documents have become very popular because they can be used so many different ways. Not only can they can be printed on paper with the fonts, formatting, and fancy figures the creator intended, but they can also be sent out electronically while *still* maintaining the desired appearance and formatting. Uses range from sending documents by email, to posting them on the web, to distributing them on CD. The electronic versions can be hyperlinked (great for Table of Contents and Index, as well as linking to reference material) and searched (great for those words or phrases that didn't get into the Index).
Mike Burns will show us how he uses Adobe Acrobat to create the PDF version of the SBPCUG newsletter -- how he adds, replaces, and extracts pages, how he makes the links, and how he can replace pages and still keep the links. He will also show how the reader benefits from the interactivity available in the electronic form of the document that is missing in the paper-based form.
Come with your ideas and questions!
Please send email to gdtpug@troutcom.com with suggestions for topics you are interested in seeing covered. Or even better, volunteer to give a presentation!
The Goleta DeskTop Publishing Users Group is a SIG (Special Interest Group) of the Santa Barbara PC Users Group. We are not platform specific: some members have PCs, some have Macs, some have both. Linux and other systems are sprinkled in as well for good measure. We focus on the issues of publishing in all forms, be it on paper, web, CD-ROM, or some other medium.
