December 5 -- Made It Myself Cards & Stationery

Color printers are so cheap and capable these days that many people are producing their own greeting cards and stationery. The advantage of Made It Myself cards and stationery is that you can use your own photos, as well as choose your own text for the sentiment.

Hersch uses Photoshop to crop, resize, and otherwise enhance photos and pours the result into WordPerfect to print double-fold cards. Sue's approach is a little different in that she pastes the print to pre-folded single-fold card stock.

It is easy to find the cost of Made It Myself cards and stationery outstripping the cost of store-bought ones if you are not careful. Hersch and Sue will be showing not only how they create the cards, but also keep costs within reason.

This is the last meeting of GDTPUG. People's interests have changed radically since I started GDTPUG over ten years ago, so instead of fonts, widows, and rivers we are now talking about photo manipulation, HTML, and publishing on CDs. The Santa Barbara PC and Mac user groups will cover these and similar topics at future meetings, so there is no need to have a separate group like the GDTPUG.

The Goleta DeskTop Publishing Users Group is a SIG (Special Interest Group) of the Santa Barbara PC Users Group. We are not platform specific: some members have PCs, some have Macs, some have both. Linux and other systems are sprinkled in as well for good measure. We focus on the issues of publishing in all forms, be it on paper, web, CD-ROM, or some other medium.
